For the first time in the tournament's 96-year history, FIFA also presented championship rings, introducing an iconic North American sporting tradition to the world's most popular game.
During the post-match awards ceremony at New York New Jersey Stadium, Spain's captain and head coach received provisional championship rings alongside the famous FIFA World Cup Trophy and the traditional gold medals. The temporary rings marked the historic moment, but the permanent versions will be individually sized and customized before being officially presented to each player and coach at a later date.
According to FIFA, each ring will feature the World Cup Trophy on one side, while the opposite side will be personalized to celebrate Spain's championship run. Additional engravings and design elements reflecting the identity of the Spanish national team will be incorporated into the finished pieces, creating one-of-a-kind keepsakes commemorating the country's latest world title.
The lavish rings are crafted in 18-karat gold and set with 89 diamonds and 36 sapphires. FIFA commissioned a strictly limited edition of 2,026 individually numbered rings — a nod to the tournament year.
Exactly 30 rings have been reserved for Spain's players and coaching staff. The remaining 1,996 rings are being offered to the public as officially licensed collectibles at $12,000 each. Every fan edition will be individually numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Some sports memorabilia experts believe the limited production run, combined with the historic significance of the first FIFA championship rings, could make them highly desirable collectibles. Reports have suggested that fan editions purchased for $12,000 today could ultimately command six-figure offers on the secondary or auction market.
The concept of championship rings has long been woven into American sports culture. Super Bowl champions have received rings since the first NFL championship game in 1967, while similar traditions have become staples in baseball, basketball and hockey. Unlike trophies, which remain with a team or organization, championship rings become deeply personal mementos that athletes can wear and cherish for a lifetime.
