Hey all, I want to tell you about a customer that came in a few weeks back.
They were getting ready to celebrate their 10-year anniversary and it was time for a diamond upgrade. She wanted a 3CT radiant cut diamond and he just wanted to make his wife happy. They had a healthy budget of $30k and so we brought in several stones for them to look at within their price range.
There was a beautiful 3 ct. that met their budget but after seeing them in person she wanted just a little bit bigger of a diamond. She asked if we could bring in 3.15 ct. but at roughly the same price. I knew in the back of my mind that a 3.15 ct. would not be enough of a visual difference so I introduce her to another choice. The choice is a diamond grown in a laboratory. At first she was hesitant. Actually - she told me "No" to a lab grown diamond.
I began to share with her that I’ve been in this industry all my life. My grandfather got us into this amazing industry back in 1926. I’ve been all over this world buying diamonds; from Canada to Belgium to India and yes, even Africa. Lab grown diamonds got my attention about 4 or 5 years ago. At that time I set out to learn as much as I could about them. I explained to her that lab grown diamonds are a diamond. They are chemically and physically identical to natural earth mined diamonds. Not even I can tell the difference without using expensive testing equipment.
I replied to her "No" with "Let me just get in a few and let you look at them." I also explained to her that we would be able to get her a much larger stone and still save her money. You see with lab grown diamonds we have been seeing a savings of 30% to 60% over earth mined diamonds.
So we brought in some radiant cut lab grown diamonds from 3 ½ ct. up to 4 ct. and, needless to say, after seeing them she falls in love! She didn't fall in love with just a 3.15 ct. diamond, she fell in love with a sparkling 3.64 ct. radiant cut lab grown diamond. We designed a beautiful, custom three stone style, wedding ring that accented her new diamond beautifully! After all was said and done she left only paying $28k instead of her original budget of 30k - and with a bigger diamond than she thought!
Friends, it’s all about choices. Here at David Douglas Diamonds and Jewelry we want to share those choices with you.
