Black South Sea pearls are commonly called Tahitian pearls, since they are grown in the waters off Tahiti. They have natural coloring.
Although they are often referred to as "black," their color can range from a bright metalic silver to a deep lead shade. Within this range of colors they can have a broad spectrum of overtone colors--blue, green and violet hues. Tahitians typically range from 8mm - 15mm in diameter.
Tahitian pearls make an extraordinary and unique gift.
